Dr Astrid moved to Gladstone in 1999 and initially worked as a part time General Practitioner until 2007. Dr Astrid then decided to sub specialise in Skin Cancer management, working at Dermotique Skin and Laser Centre for 3 years while doing further study. During this time, she completed the Australian Diploma of Dermatoscopy, attended 2 international Masterclasses of Dermatoscopy and undertook the Advanced Surgical skills workshops run by The Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand (SCCANZ). Dr Astrid returned to work at the Windmill Centre in 2010.

In 2014 Dr Astrid graduated from The University of Queensland's Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer). Currently Dr Astrid participates in SCARD (Skin Cancer Audit and Research Database) with over 5000 lesions logged since 2007, is an active member of the Skin Cancer College of Australiasia (SCCA), attending every conference since its inception in 2007, and participates in the daily Skin Cancer blog. Dr Astrid is an accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australiasia. Private Billing Doctor.
